The Writing Process

I attended (online) an Author Talk with Amor Towles. I found his description of his writing process so fascinatingly thoughtful, I immediately realized I had to share it with my dedicated writing friends. Here’s the link: https://libraryc.org/lanepl/31896/544015

Thanks for posting this! I was not surprised to hear that Towles’s love of writing sprang from reading and hearing others read. His ‘process’ of outlining is not something I could do, but I do learn about my stories and characters as I’m writing them, just as he does.
Frustration and epiphany are familiar to me, too, and I usually leave off and write something else until the first wanes and the second blooms. I also like that Towles is willing to tackle things he hasn’t mastered as he writes his stories…..that’s risky, and takes confidence.
He loves his characters, too, even the lesser ones, and I identify with that. My crime series became a series only because I missed the two protagonists from my first attempt at a novel when I got 1/4 way into the second book…..and like Towles, I ‘hear’ them all the time.
    Thanks again for posting this.
