Motorcycle Ride to Vermont Part 3

In his dream at the 5-Star Tom Brady Hotel, Ed Cooper thought about how he and Broccolli Moon first met at grammar school at Poland Springs Elementary School. “Broccolli sat in school on his first day with a red bowtie, checkered blue and white shirt with black shorts.

Hello, my name is Ed and I want to be your friend. My friends call me Broccolli and maybe we can play with my toy motorcycles. Splendid and I look forward to it after school, Broccolli.

Through the dream, Ed marveled how the first time of playing with the toy motorcycles fueled their interest in motorcycles.

Broccolli and I grew up by switching from toys to pedal motorcycles into our early years of 3rd grade. We would take turns performing wheelies in the air to look cool. As time went on, we switched our schooling to Pepper Ridge Jr. Sr. High School.

Both our parents bought us a matching 1986 Yamaha TT350s dirt bike with a 6 speed gear box and advertised to do 90 miles per hour off the showroom floor.

The shutters slammed shut in the hotel room from the howling wind as Ed woke up started from his dream. “Gosh what a dream I had.”

Ed grabbed the phone to call Broccolli. “Broccolli let us meet at the shady rest for breakfast in 30 minutes and ride in 2 hours.” “Okay Ed, I am ready to make the trip to Montpelier. We have 100 miles on 31 north and 100 miles on west 24. See you at breakfast.”

Ed and broccoli met at breakfast drinking their stiff black Cuban coffee with wheat toast, butter, strawberry jam, bacon and scrambled eggs.

“The breakfast here is stupendous Ed, my energy explodes for another excursion. Let’s ride to Montpelier! Those Maple trees are ripe with color.”

Broccolli starts up his 2021 Harley Davidson Road Glide with purr as Ed finishes putting on his black Harley jacket, helmet and scorpion vortex air gloves on. Ed starts up his Harley Davidson Road Glide as the smell of fresh gasoline fills the air. The motorcycle riders head down the frontage road north to gain access to 31 north.

“Ed the trees on both sides of the highway are changing colors quickly.”

The motorcycles pulled in the right lane together side by side while starting out on 31 north.

“Look Ed, over on the right side where the hills have thousands upon thousands of rows of black, green, red, and yellow grape trees. The name of the winery is Carmel Jones Winery since 1856 on the sign. Carmel Jones served the Union Army as a major-general. I read this in a publication on civil way history. He purchased 200,000 acres in the 1840’s thru the gold he inherited from his grandfather.”

“Broccolli, we will need gas once we reach 24 west where Carson City provides a brand-new Shell Station which offers 30 percent off every gallon of gas if we sign up for a Shell Rewards Card.”

“Ed, traffic stopped ahead with flashing cop cars and ambulances. The deviated traffic funneled off through the Catskill farms dirt road with cows assembled on both sides of the road.

As the motorcycles followed traffic on the dirt road, Ed’s motorcycle hit a metal shrapnel on the front tire which tore all the way through. Ed went airborne over the front handlebars landing on his left side. Ed laid on the ground with dirt in his hair, a ripped left pant leg, and shredded and bleeding skin on the left forearm.

“Ed, are you okay?”

“I am fine Broccolli, fortunately my pant leg is ripped, but there shows only a little blood.”

Ed, rolled over to his knees and got up standing.

“Ed, do you need an ambulance?”

“No, just a tow truck through triple A.”

“Ed, I just looked up a hotel we can stay at as well as a motorcycle shop next to the hotel. The hotel is Brightmura Hotel, in Calbert and the motorcycle shop is called Sleezy Bones Motorcycle Shop.”

Broccolli called the triple A towing company and the motorcycle got picked up and transported to Sleezy Bone’s. Ed rode with the tow truck and Broccolli followed them. Ed and Broccolli checked in their room and retired for the evening.

This part was hilarious—“Ed, do you need an ambulance?”
“No, just a tow truck through triple A.”
I liked the use of dialogue throughout.
