Yankees Wow Moment

On October 26, 1999, my wife Lori and I found ourselves at Yankee Stadium in the evening where the New York Yankees were playing the Atlanta Braves for game 3 in the Major League Baseball World Series.

By the 7th inning the Braves kept a 5 to 2 lead with the Yankees at bat in the bottom of the 7th inning with one out. Tino Martinez came to bat and smashed a pitch into the right field seats to make the score 5 to 3.

In the 8th inning, the Yankees scored 2 runs to tie the score 5 to 5 with the 9-inning coming up.

John Rocker matched Mariano Rivera’s excellent 9th inning with 3 outs.

The table was set for the 10th inning. In the top half of the 10th inning, the braves could not score at all.

The Yankees were now at bat in the bottom of the 10th inning. Bobby Cox, the Braves Manager summoned reliever Mike Remlinger from the bullpen to face lead off hitter Chad Curtis. Chad fouled off the first pitch. Remlinger then threw a change up on the next pitch and Chad hit the pitch deep into the left field over the fence.  The fans went wild, hugging each other, and high fiving each other. The Yankees won, 6 to 5.

    Walk-offs are always WOW! moments.
As a Blue Jays fan, I’d be rooting for the Braves, though.
