Real Vs. Imitation

(This is my submission to round 2, the Florida Weekly challenge. Couple on a boardwalk with a plane going overhead.)

“Jen, will you look at that, a WWII vintage fighter plane.”

“That’s nice, Jeff.”

“Come on Jen, you haven’t looked up once from that stupid phone since we got here. What’s more interesting than seeing a classic fighter, anyway?”

“I’m live streaming the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard trial and you’re making me miss some of it. Who cares about some dumb 150-year-old plane, anyway? It should be in a museum before it falls out of the sky. All this talk just made me miss what he said.”

“It’s more like 80 years old and it’s real, unlike a couple of rich actors pretending to be suffering.”

“Whatever, Jeff, what everrr!”

“Okay, planes aren’t your thing, but what about all this beautiful nature that’s surrounding us? You must prefer this to all that courtroom junk?”

“You call being surrounded by flies and mosquitoes and crocodiles beautiful? I’m getting eaten alive out here.”

“Alligators, they’re alligators, not crocodiles.”

“Alligators or crocodiles? What’s the difference? They both still eat people, don’t they? Are we done yet? Court just went into recess, so if we leave now, I can finish the day’s proceedings on a big screen.”

“Yup, we’re done all right. I’ll take a shortcut I know so you can get back faster.”

“Thanks, Jeff, that’s sweet, just like Johnny.”

Opposites attract. Sadly only for a short time. Your dialogue (as Brad emtioned) leads one to think they will be the next depp/heard in the courtroom.

Loved the dialogue…..very true to life, revealing the nature of each character.
