LUXURY RESORT

LUXURY RESORT

It was heavily advertised on TV, radio and the rest of the media, “Toss your cares to the wind!”; “Enjoy the vacation of a lifetime!” The advertising pitches were endless.

It started to sound real tempting to the Huntzmeyers, Essie and Curt. They were actively looking for a nice, relaxing vacation in the sun, far away from the fierce winter they were experiencing. They hadn’t had a vacation in over two years.

The place, The Rendezvous Luxury Resort, looked like the ideal place for them. They booked a first-class flight to the resort on the island of Curacao. When they landed, there was a limo to wisk them to their destination for a week of pure heavenly joy.

When they arrived, their first look assured them they had made the right choice. It was just as advertised: an intimate beach-front property for couples. A sign over the entrance read, “We value an unplugged time above all else”.

A golf cart took them to their villa. Their luggage was waiting for them in their room, when they entered. The room was spectacular! It had a circular bed, a 75-inch TV and a walk-in closet big enough for one to live in. The marble bathroom had a shower that could accommodate four people and a tub the size of a small swimming pool. A booklet on the nightstands stated that the resort was not just for newlyweds, but a place to re-connect and practice detox together.

Then, the first sign of trouble in paradise. Curt went into the bathroom to wash up. The water was brown! There were no hangers in the closet nor sheets and pillow cases on the bed. After a call to complain, they were told to relax in their private pool as all would be taken care of post haste. There was no water in the pool! Things went downhill from there – quickly. Service in the restaurant was horrible as was the food. There was no entertainment as advertised. They returned to their villa dejected. At least there were linen and hangers.

The next day, after a lousy breakfast, they decided to take bicycle rides. Five minutes into the ride Essie fell and broke her arm! The rest of the day was spent at the local hospital, waiting to get her arm set. Dinner stunk as usual and the water was still brown! They decided to leave the next day. So much for a luxury vacation. So much for heaven on earth.

Being back in their own home was heaven enough for them.
