TELEGRAM

Will you explain to me what happened
I can’t understand ... your apathy
Only one word of explanation
can satisfy this need in me

You tell me that fate had called its marker
and my son had paid his debt
He went with a heart strapped to his saddle
A smile and no regret

I don’t appreciate your time... shallow words meant to rhyme
are all the same...ease the pain
I know you can never feel
emotions that are real
To pain and grief...A postmark is your relief

Hope you don’t mind if I don’t thank you
your purpose is serviced...so I’ll finalize
All that is left of the pieces
hope I have strength to eulogize

Amazing as it may seem...your affect me
has left me drained...emotion free
I never thought in my hand...A yellow telegram
could stop my breath...with announcement of a death

Farewell to you my public servant
there’s got to be...a better way
But now that you’ve done your civic duty
I’ll crumble you up...
Throw you away
