Positively, Don’t Stop…

Every day we see and hear the word “stop” many times.  We need to stop when driving at certain intervals.  Self-help gurus communicate daily via multimedia that we need to stop feeling depressed, stop gaining wait, stop drinking, stop smoking and other messages that strictly command us to cease some behavior.

Even the word in other languages is often harsh and dictatorial.  Alto!  Anhalten! Arretez!

But, by merely add the negative contraction “don’t”, it provides us with a positive message instead.

As popular music is often the soundtrack to our lives, consider the amount of billboard hits with the words “Don’t Stop” in the title.  They preach…

Don’t Stop Me Now…I’m having a good time, having a ball;

Don’t Stop Believing…hold onto that feeling;

Don’t Stop Thinking About Tomorrow…it will soon be here;

Please Don’t Stop the Music…got to get my body moving, shake the stress away;

Don’t Stop til You Get Enough…dance and shout, shake your body down to the ground…

These songs are anthems of optimism and confidence subliminally encouraging us to engage in energetic, hopeful and happy pursuits.  The motivational power of their cheery ideas continually pipes good feelings into our brains altering our consciousness.   May be that is why they were hits.

“Music can change the world because it can change people.”
― Bono

Note to self….to write a hit song….use words “don’t stop.”
