Anne’s Addition

Carol is the oldest of three sisters. Her sisters, Katie and Kelly are fraternal twins who are five years younger. Carol always envied they’re close relationship, but lately they haven’t been speaking to one another.

Almost a year ago, Katie dated Dave Hart for about a month. Neither had strong feelings for each other, so they had an amiable break up. A few months later, Kelly ran into Dave at a party and they were quite attracted to one another.  Since Katie wasn’t interested in Dave to begin with, Kelly didn’t think it would cause hard feelings between them.  At first Katie feigned that it didn’t bother her. Maybe it would have really been OK if Katie were dating someone seriously, but that wasn’t the case

Anyway, now Kelly and  Dave are engaged and Katie feels betrayed, refusing to talk to either either of them. As a matter of fact, she is planning to move across country to be as far away as possible. Kelly and Dave wish things were different, and Katie‘s parents are frantic at the thought of “ losing” their daughter.

Carol isn’t quite sure how she will mediate this whole situation, but she needs to be there now. All of a sudden, Carol‘s car starts to sputter so she pulls over to the side of the highway. She tries calling her folks, but there apparently is no cell service.

As the hours pass and Carol hasn’t arrived, everyone back home is beginning to worry. No one wants to think the worst, and everyone fears it. Carol is not the type to just not call or come when she says she will. By 2 AM the whole family is sitting together in the living room – even Dave Hart.  They are all working at calming Carol‘s mother who is crying as if they have already heard bad news.

At around three  A.m., a policeman comes to Carol‘s rescue and calls AAA for her.  Carol‘s car is towed to the nearest garage where she has to wait until someone arrives and repairs it.  She is  finally able to call home and everyone is so relieved to hear from her that they celebrate and have milk and chocolate chip cookies.

Katie begins to notice how important family is when something serious is happening. She also realizes how foolish she is being at the thought of moving away just because she’s jealous.

By the time Carol finally arrives home, everyone is tired but in good spirits. Problem resolved.

  1. You’ve written a good example of just letting things work out on their own. Angels were at work in this family.

Interesting family dynamics. Agreeing with Teresa that time often softens a volatile situation.

Katie probably thought enough with sharing, our clothes yes but not boyfriends. In the end, family came together.

I think there’s movie potential here! I liked the way the car trouble delay turned out to be a good thing. Sometimes, it’s just good to wait for things to blow over…and see something that shows us what’s important and what isn’t. Also liked the milk and cookies scene to end on a high note!

An awkward family dynamic for sure. Forgive me for siding with Katie, as I’d consider it a great betrayal as well! Creating.
