Quiet Veterans

The veterans dwell amongst us

We see them every day.

But few if any know this.

They are quiet, not much to say.

They were once up front in wartime,

and peace was their fervent goal.

They were there to fight for freedom

and return to fulfill their role.

From rural farm and city street

they answered the nation’s call.

They risked the loss of life and limb

and prayed they would never fall.

The noise around the world today

might again sound another call

for young men and women to

stand up and answer for us all.

Then someday soon thereafter

a Veteran they’ll be named,

for giving up a part of life

their family now reclaimed.
